DeBakey Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine specializes in the surgical treatment of disease using state-of-the-art techniques - many developed right here in our own department - performed by highly trained, specialized surgeons. Services offered by the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery include:
- Cardiothoracic Surgery - Surgical treatment for thoracic aortic disease including aortic stent grafts, coronary artery disease, cardiac valvular disease, pulmonary and esophageal diseases, and hyperhidrosis.
- General Surgery - Minimally invasive surgical treatment of gallbladder, hernia, spleen, pancreas, reflux, breast cancer, obesity and colorectal diseases. Our Liver Center also offers a comprehensive range of services including liver transplantation, hepatobiliary surgery, treatment of liver cancer, treatment of hepatitis C, abdominal paracentesis, fulminant liver failure treatment and the evaluation and treatment of all forms of liver abnormalities.
- Transplant Surgery and Assist Devices - Surgical treatment of heart, lung, kidney and aortic diseases, including transplant surgery for heart, lungs, kidneys and cardiac assist devices for treatment of heart failure.
- Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy - Traditional open surgical treatment as well as endovascular procedures for carotid disease, abdominal and thoracic aortic aneurysms, peripheral vascular disease, dialysis access and venous disease.
Tam T. Huynh, M.D., is an associate professor of Surgery in the division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy, part of the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine. She is board certified in both general surgery and vascular surgery. Dr. Huynh specializes in all aspects of vascular and endovascular surgery, including the management of aortic aneurysm, visceral and renal disease, peripheral arterial occlusive disease, varicose veins, venous stasis ulcers, carotid endarterectomy, and carotid stenting. She earned her medical degree at McGill University in Montreal, Canada, followed by a residency in general surgery at Queen's University and the Kingston General Hospital in Ontario, Canada. She completed fellowship training in vascular surgery at Baylor College of Medicine and a vascular research fellowship at Duke University in Durham, NC.
