NCI Designation
Back to TopThe Dan L. Duncan Cancer Center is a National Cancer Society (NCI) designated cancer center. This is a significant designation that places the Duncan Cancer Center among the best in the nation and provides critical program funding to combat cancer.
NCI-designated cancer centers play an important role in their communities and regions and serve to influence standards of cancer prevention and treatment. Most importantly, all NCI-designated cancer centers make significant contributions to advances in cancer research that are integral to understanding, preventing, and treating this disease. Currently, the Duncan Cancer Center is one of 63 such centers nationally and one of three in the state of Texas.

Pediatric Cancers
The Texas Children’s Cancer Center (TCCC) is an integral part of the DLDCC with programs that serve pediatric patients and transition young cancer patients to adult care. Offering a wide range of pediatric cancer specialties, the TCCC has one of the largest pediatric oncology training programs in the nation. The TCCC is the site of the Childhood Cancer Epidemiology and Prevention Center, a joint center of Baylor College of Medicine and the MD Anderson Cancer Center, that pursues both population based and molecular epidemiology studies of childhood cancer. Cancer genetic studies are undertaken through participation in the NCI-supported Texas Cancer Genetics Consortium.
