Goutham Dronavalli, MD, assistant professor of Medicine, received his medical degree from Kasturbia Medical College in Manipal, India, and completed an internal medicine residency at the East Tennessee State University. His training includes additional fellowships in both lung transplant and pulmonary and critical care at Baylor College of Medicine, where he was awarded "Best Fellow" by peers. Dr. Goutham speaks fluent English, Telugu, and Hindu and is board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary disease and critical care medicine. His clinical and research interests are lung transplantation and critical care medicine.


Adaani E. Frost, MD, professor of Medicine, is board certified in internal medicine - pulmonary diseases and critical care. She is the director of the Pulmonary Hypertension Center at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Frost received her medical degree from Memorial University of Newfoundland in St. John's Newfoundland, Canada. Her extensive training includes residencies in internal medicine at Toronto General Hospital and University Hospital, University of Alberta. Dr. Frost also completed fellowships in pulmonary medicine and critical pulmonary transplant research in Toronto and Montreal, Canada. She is nationally and internationally recognized for her work in pulmonary hypertension, pulmonary fibrosis, lung transplantation and Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS).


Kalpalatha K. "Kay" Guntupalli, MD, is professor of Medicine, section chief of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine, and director of the Pulmonary & Critical Care fellowship program at Baylor College of Medicine. She is also pulmonary service chief at Ben Taub General Hospital, Houston. In her current role as section chief, Dr. Guntupalli has enabled departmental growth through recruitment of several faculty members who have contributed significantly to the field of Pulmonary and Critical Care. Dr. Guntupalli earned her medical degree from Institute of Medical Sciences, Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad, India. She completed her residency in internal medicine at the District of Columbia General Hospital, Washington, D.C., and fellowships in pulmonary medicine at Georgetown University and in critical care at the University of Pittsburgh Health Science Center, Pittsburgh, PA. Dr. Guntupalli is board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine and critical care. Her research interests are acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), severe asthma, mechanical ventilation, tobacco control and postgraduate education.


Nicola Hanania, MD, is associate professor of Medicine, section of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Hanania earned his medical degree from the University of Jordan, Amman, Jordan, where he also completed his residency in internal medicine. He completed a fellowship in pulmonary medicine at the University of Toronto, Toronto, Canada, and in critical care from Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Hanania is board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine and critical care. He specializes in pulmonary and critical care medicine, with research interests in asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). He is the director of the Asthma Clinical Research Center at Baylor College of Medicine.


Marcia Katz, MD, is an assistant professor and the associate chair of medicine for clinical affairs at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Katz earned her medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine, Boston. She completed her residency in internal medicine at Boston City Hospital, and her fellowship in pulmonary and critical care at Boston University School of Medicine. Dr. Katz is board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine and critical care. She specializes in pulmonary and critical care medicine, with research interests in cystic fibrosis and lung volume reduction surgery.


Amit D. Parulekar, MD, assistant professor of Medicine, is board certified in internal medicine and pulmonary disease. Dr. Parulekar earned his medical degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine. His training includes a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Barnes-Jewish Hospital/Washington University School of Medicine in Saint Louis. Dr. Parulekar's clinical interests include lung transplantation and critical care.


Zeenat Safdar, MD, is assistant professor of Medicine, section of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Safdar earned her medical degree from Sind Medical College, University of Karachi in Pakistan. She completed her residency in internal medicine at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY, followed by fellowship training in pulmonary medicine at St. Luke's Hospital- Roosevelt Hospital in New York City. Her specialties include pulmonary hypertension, both idiopathic and that associated with but not limited to collagen vascular disease, congenital heart disease, HIV and porto-pulmonary and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Dr. Safdar is board certified in internal medicine and pulmonary medicine.


Ramachandra R. Sista, MD, assistant professor of Medicine, is board certified in internal medicine, critical care medicine and pulmonary disease. Dr. Sista earned his medical degree from the Guntur Medical College in India. His training includes a residency in internal medicine at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, MI, and fellowships in pulmonary and critical care medicine as well as heart-lung and lung transplantation at Stanford University School of Medicine in California. Dr. Sista's clinical and research interests include: heart-lung and lung transplantation, advanced lung disease, acute lung injury/acute respiratory distress syndrome (ALI/ARDS), novel extracorporeal lung assist technologies; clinical outcomes and quality improvement, and airway interventions.


May-Lin Wilgus, MD, is an assistant professor of Medicine in the Section of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine. Dr. Wilgus received her medical degree from The University of Texas-Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas and completed her residency in internal medicine and fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Columbia University Medical Center in New York City. She is board certified in internal medicine and pulmonary disease. Her clinical interests include lung cancer and lung nodules, COPD, and general pulmonary medicine.


Our Team

Carolyn Cotton, RN, MSN, FNP, is a nurse practitioner in the department of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine. Her fields of interest include cystic fibrosis, bronchiectasis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) including emphysema and asthma, and neuromuscular diseases. Ms. Cotton earned a master of science degree in nursing and a Family Nurse Practitioner degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International, the Honor Society of Nursing. She graduated in the top 10 percent of her class at UTMB.
