Orthopedic Surgery
Michael H. Heggeness, MD, PhD is professor of Orthopedic Surgery. A board-certified orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Heggeness specializes in spinal disorders and surgery of the spine. He earned his medical degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine, followed by a residency in orthopedic surgery at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York City. He completed a fellowship in spine surgery at the University of Toronto in Ontario, Canada. Dr. Heggeness also serves as director for the Center for Orthopedic Research and Education at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital, chief of the Orthopedic Spine Service at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Houston, and spine consultant to the Houston Ballet.
Melvyn A. Harrington Jr., MD, associate professor of Orthopedic Surgery, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in arthritis and joint reconstruction, including total and minimally invasive knee and hip replacements. After completing his undergraduate degree at The Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Harrington earned his medical degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tenn. He completed his internship and his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of California Davis Medical Center in Sacramento. He also completed a fellowship in adult reconstructive orthopedic surgery at Harvard University, Massachusetts General Hospital, in Boston. Previously, Dr. Harrington served as assistant professor for the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation at Loyola University Chicago, Stritch School of Medicine for eight years.
Brian S. Parsley, MD, assistant professor of Orthopedic Surgery, specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of arthritis and adult reconstructive surgery. He is board certified in orthopedic surgery. Dr. Parsley earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical School, where he also completed his orthopedic residency. He completed a one-year fellowship at the Anderson Orthopedic Research Institute in Arlington, VA, where he specialized in joint replacement arthroplasty and participated in the surgical treatment of 400 joint replacement patients.
David P. Antekeier, MD, assistant professor of Orthopedic Surgery, is a board certified orthopedic surgeon. His clinical interests are pediatric orthopedics, including scoliosis treatment and surgery, hip deformation or misalignment, and sports injuries and fractures. Dr. Antekeier earned his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, MI. His training includes an orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Louisville in Kentucky and a pediatric orthopedic surgery fellowship at Cincinnati Children's Hospital in Ohio.
Shannon B. Antekeier, MD, assistant professor of Orthopedic Surgery, is a board certified orthopedic surgeon. Her clinical interest is pediatric orthopedic surgery. Dr. Antekeier earned her medical degree from the University of Louisville in Kentucky. Her training includes an orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Louisville and a pediatric orthopedic surgery fellowship at Cincinnati Children's Hospital in Ohio.
Frank Gerow, MD, assistant professor of Orthopedic Surgery, is a board certified orthopedic surgeon. Dr. Gerow received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine, where he also completed fellowship training in orthopedic surgery. Dr. Gerow specializes in scoliosis, hip dysplasia, sports medicine, pediatric trauma, cerebral palsy, and congenital and developmental conditions involving children less than 21 years of age.
Kevin S. Horowitz, MD, assistant professor of Orthopedic Surgery, received his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor. He also completed fellowship training in pediatric orthopedic surgery at the Children's Orthopaedics of Atlanta in Georgia. Dr. Horowitz specializes in scoliosis, problems of the spine, hip dysplasia, pediatric trauma, cerebral palsy, congenital and developmental conditions involving children less than 21 years of age, and degenerative hip disorders from childhood through adulthood.
William A. Phillips MD, professor for the departments of Orthopedic Surgery and Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in pediatric orthopedics. He also serves as chief of the section of Orthopaedic Surgery and Scoliosis at Texas Children's Hospital. Following undergraduate studies at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN, Dr. Phillips earned his medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. He completed his internship and a residency in orthopedic surgery at University of Chicago Hospital, followed by a fellowship in spinal disorders at Rush-Presbyterian/St.Luke's Medical Center in Chicago.
Scott B. Rosenfeld, MD, assistant professor of Orthopedic Surgery, is a board certified orthopedic surgeon. Dr. Rosenfeld received his medical degree from The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. His extensive training includes a residency in orthopedic surgery at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas and fellowship training in pediatric orthopedic surgery in the Harvard Combined Orthopedic Surgery program at The Children's Hospital in Boston. Dr. Rosenfeld specializes in pediatric orthopedics including sports medicine, scoliosis, and adolescent and young adult hip preservation.
Matthew E. Koepplinger, DO, is an assistant professor at Baylor College of Medicine. He earned his medical degree from Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens, OH, and residency in orthopedic surgery at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, OH. He completed a hand surgery fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. His clinical interests include hand and upper extremity and shoulder problems.
James B. Stafford IV, MD, assistant professor of Orthopedic Surgery, specializes in the hand and upper extremities. Dr. Stafford is board certified in surgery, hand surgery and plastic surgery. He earned his medical degree from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, followed by an internship and residency in general surgery at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas. He received his plastic surgery training at the University of Virginia, followed by a fellowship in hand surgery at the internationally recognized Strickland, Steichen, Kleinman & Hastings Hand Center in Indianapolis, IN.
Darrell S. Hanson, MD, assistant professor of Orthopedic Surgery, is an orthopedic spine surgeon specializing in scoliosis and other spinal disorders. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. Following undergraduate studies at Rice University in Houston, Dr. Hanson earned his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine, where he also completed his internship and residency in orthopedic surgery. He completed fellowship training in spinal surgery at Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, MO.
Charles A. Reitman, MD, associate professor and interim chair of Orthopedic Surgery, specializes in spine surgery, with extensive experience in spine trauma and spinal disorders. He also serves as Chief of Orthopedic Surgery Service at Ben Taub General Hospital in Houston. Dr. Reitman earned his bachelor's degree with a certificate in physical therapy from the University of California, San Francisco. He earned his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine, where he also completed an internship in general surgery, a residency in orthopedic surgery, and a fellowship in spine surgery. Dr. Reitman is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

This is my first visit to Baylor Clinic and I am very satisfied. I did not have to wait long to see the doctor. During my appointment she took her time, asking me questions. The employee at the front desk was very courteous and friendly.
