In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)

When less expensive, less invasive treatment options have been ruled out, Baylor College of Medicine offers expert in vitro fertilization (IVF) and related services. The Baylor College of Medicine IVF program long ago celebrated a milestone of 1,000 IVF babies.

With IVF, eggs are surgically removed from the ovary and mixed with sperm outside the body. If the eggs become fertilized, these embryos are placed in the woman's uterus, bypassing the fallopian tubes.

IVF is considered the treatment of choice for:

• Women with blocked, severely damaged or absent fallopian tubes
• Endometriosis
• Male factor infertility
• Longstanding unexplained infertility
• Premature ovarian failure treated with donated oocytes
• Severe pelvic adhesions
• Uterine anomalies
• Diminished ovarian reserve
