Hematology/Oncology Physicians

Martha P. Mims, MD, is associate professor of Medicine, professor in the Dan L. Duncan Cancer Center at BCM, and chief of the Section of Hematology/Oncology in the Department of Medicine. Since 2008, Dr. Mims has served as the administrative director of the Hematology/Oncology Unit at the Harris County Hospital District's Ben Taub General Hospital, where she conducts extensive patient care activities including development and direction of a genitourinary oncology multi-disciplinary clinic and co-chairs the cancer committee. She also serves as vice chair of the BCM Admissions Committee and as associate director of the Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Training program.

Hematology

Mark M. Udden, MD, is professor of Medicine and chief of Benign Hematology for the section of Hematology-Oncology at Baylor College of Medicine. He also serves as chief of Hematology Service at Ben Taub General Hospital. Dr. Udden specializes in benign hematology, including anemias, sickle cell disease, thalassemia, myeloproliferative disorders (including CML), thrombosis, and platelet disorders, and hematologic malignancies such as CLL, non-Hodgkin's and Hodgkin's lymphomas, and plasma cell dyscrasia. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine with subspecialty certification in hematology. After completing his undergraduate degree in biology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Dr. Udden earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. He completed a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in hematology at Baylor College of Medicine.

Oncology

Ajjai S. Alva, MBBS, assistant professor of medicine in the section of hematology and oncology, is board certified in internal medicine. Dr. Alva earned his medical degree from Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education in India. His training includes a residency at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, MD, where he was associate chief resident and a fellowship in hematology and oncology at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Dr. Alva is a medical oncologist who specializes in the treatment of solid tumors. He has a particular interest in bladder cancers, and works with physicians from the BCM Scott Department of Urology to provide comprehensive care for bladder cancer patients.


Garrett R. Lynch, MD, is professor of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Lynch specializes in medical oncology and medical education. He is board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology. Dr. Lynch earned his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Boston City Hospital followed by fellowship training in medical oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York.


C. Kent Osborne, MD, is professor of Medicine and Molecular and Cellular Biology, director of the Dan L. Duncan Cancer Center and the Smith Breast Center at Baylor College of Medicine and acting chief of the section of Hematology-Oncology at BCM. Clinically, Dr. Osborne is primarily interested in new treatment strategies, including the development and testing of new hormonal treatments for breast cancer and the development of gene therapy for treatment and prevention. He earned his medical degree at the University of Missouri Medical School in Columbia. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, MD, and his fellowship in medical oncology at the National Cancer Institute, Bethesda, MD. Dr. Osborne is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, with a subspecialty of medical oncology.

Gastroenterology Oncology

Benjamin Musher, MD, is an assistant professor of Medicine in the section of Hematology-Oncology at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM). Dr. Musher is board certified in medical oncology and internal medicine. His primary clinical interest is gastrointestinal cancers, and his research has focused on novel immunotherapy for pancreatic cancer. Before joining BCM, Dr. Musher served on the faculty of the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Musher earned his undergraduate degree from Harvard University and his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine internship and residency at the University of Washington (Seattle, WA) and a hematology-oncology fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania.
