The Weight Management Program from Baylor Family Medicine is designed to help you reduce your weight and improve your health for life through simple, everyday tips, techniques and nutritional guidelines.

The Weight Management Program teaches you small changes that will make a big difference in your weight and your overall health. You'll look better, feel better, increase your energy level, and may reduce your risk of developing weight-related chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension (high blood pressure) and cardiovascular disease.

Based on Proven Health and Medical Information

Unlike many weight-loss programs, the Weight Management Program at Baylor Family Medicine was developed based on medically and evidence-based health information. There are no fad diets, no special foods to buy, no long-term contracts and no financial penalties for any temporary setbacks. The emphasis is on education.

Designed to Help Anyone Lose Weight

The program is for anyone who needs to lose weight. It is an ideal option for those with a body mass index (BMI) of 25 or more, or anyone suffering from weight-related health issues.

As with any weight-loss program, we recommend all participants consult with their physician before starting the Weight Management Program. Baylor Family Medicine has physicians available for immediate appointments and a convenient on-site lab for any lab work that might be ordered. (Note the cost of a physical is not included in the Weight Management Program fees.)

Lifetime of Benefits

The Weight Management Program will help you:

  • Conquer calories. Learn:
    • where your calories come from
    • how to count them
    • how to reduce the calories you consume
    • how to balance calories consumed with calories expended
  • Control portion size. Easy-to-remember strategies and everyday visual clues will help you lose weight – and keep it off.
  • Follow a healthy diet. The program follows a dietary plan based on recommendations by the American Heart Association, National Cholesterol Education Program and American Diabetes Association. We'll help you understand what that means and how to make it part of your lifetime eating habits.
  • Stay on track. Bi-weekly group meetings provide guidance and support to keep you on track, including weigh-ins, feedback from the program's registered licensed dietician, recipes, guest physicians and timely presentations on nationally observed health topics.
  • Improve your health by being better informed. You'll hear firsthand from healthcare professionals (and  receive valuable resources) about life-threatening diseases and conditions caused by excess weight, and the lifestyle changes you can make to reduce your risk and prolong your life.
