Anthony E. Brown, MD, MPH, assistant professor, received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine, completed family medicine residency at the University of California Irvine, and is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. He earned a BS in bioengineering at the University of California San Diego, trained in health promotion/education through a MPH, and studied how spirituality impacts health during a Research Fellowship. Dr. Brown is interested in caring for your primary health concerns over time, collaborating with other specialists as needed, and helping you enjoy a high quality of life and personal well-being.
Jane E. Corboy, MD, associate professor, received her medical degree with highest honors from Baylor College of Medicine and completed her residency in family medicine at the University of Kansas in Kansas City, Kansas. She has completed additional training programs, including the Faculty Development Fellowship at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and the Master Teacher Fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Corboy is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and holds a Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine. Dr. Corboy is interested in women's health, disease prevention, and sports medicine, especially running injuries. Bilingual/Spanish.
Matthew S. Horsfield, MD,assistant professor, received his medical degree from the University of South Florida in Tampa. He completed his residency training in family medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. Prior to joining BFM, he practiced in Southeast Louisiana for almost a decade. He is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. Dr. Horsfield's interests include patient education, health promotion and chronic disease management.
Tomas G. Lumicao Jr., MD, assistant professor, received his medical degree from the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center in Manila, the Philippines. He completed his residency in family medicine at Baylor College of Medicine he is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. His special interests include minor ambulatory procedures and obesity. Bilingual/Filipino.
John C. Rogers, MD, MPH, interim chair and professor, received his medical degree from the University of Iowa and completed his residency in family medicine at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and his master's in public health from the University of Washington School of Public Health in Seattle, Washington. Dr. Rogers is certified by the American Board of Preventive Medicine and by the American Board of Family Medicine and holds a Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine. Dr. Rogers is particularly interested in prevention in clinic settings and in sports medicine.
Luis O. Rustveld, PhD, RD, LD, assistant professor, earned his Ph.D. degree in Epidemiology from the University of Pittsburgh, Graduate School of Public Health. Dr. Rustveld is a licensed and registered dietitian. His research interests include nutrition and chronic diseases, diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, community health, health status of minority populations, and reproductive health. Bilingual/Spanish.
Stephen J. Spann, MD, senior vice president and dean of clinical affairs, received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine and completed his residency in family medicine at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. He completed postdoctoral work in clinical epidemiology and health services research at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and is certified by American Board of Family Medicine. His primary interests are preventive medicine, diabetes, and medical diagnostic dilemmas. Bilingual/Spanish.
Jeffrey R. Steinbauer, MD, chief medical information officer - Faculty Group Practice, is a professor and a board-certified family physician in Baylor College of Medicine's Department of Family and Community Medicine. An advocate for high-quality patient care delivered with the patient's perspective in mind, Dr. Steinbauer is enthusiastically pursuing efforts to improve customer service, implement advanced technology – including electronic medical records (EMR) – and bring new processes of care to the clinical setting. Dr. Steinbauer earned his medical degree from the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City and completed his residency and internship in Family Practice at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. He began private practice in the small town of Clay Center, Kansas, where he gained a broad range of experiences taking care of the needs of his patients from birth to death. Three years later, he followed a family tradition of teaching and joined the faculty at the University of Oklahoma School of Medicine. Dr. Steinbauer's clinical interests include information technology and practice management.
Simon N. Whitney, MD, JD, assistant professor, earned his medical degree from the New York University School of Medicine and completed his residency in family medicine at Swedish Hospital in Seattle, Washington. He earned a law degree with distinction from Stanford University, where he also completed a fellowship in biomedical ethics. Dr. Whitney is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. His research interests are patient-physician decision making, including end-of-life choices and conflicts between physicians and patients.
Physician assistants are integral members of our team. Under the supervision of a physician, they can assist patients with medical questions or concerns, conduct examinations, prescribe medications, order diagnostic services and provide therapeutic and preventive health care services.
Elissa Love, MS, PA-C, instructor, received her master's degree as a physician assistant in 1996 at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. Prior to her return to Baylor, Elissa practiced in a general internal medicine clinic in Katy, Texas for over eight years. Elissa also currently serves as an instructor and advisor to the students in the Physician Assistant Program at Baylor. She is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. Her special interests include: women's and children's health issues, preventive care, and effective caregiver/patient communication.
Kristen Meaders, MS, PA-C, instructor, received her master's degree as a physician assistant from Baylor College of Medicine in 1997. Prior to returning to Baylor, Kristen worked in family practice until 1999, and worked at MD Anderson Cancer Center for seven years. She is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, and is a clinical instructor in the Baylor Physician Assistant program. Her special interests include preventative medicine, women's and children's health issues, and end-of-life care. Bilingual/Spanish.
Isabel Valdez, MPAS, PA-C, instructor, is board-certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. She received her Master of Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. Her interests include the promotion of disease prevention, patient education, and the management of chronic diseases such as diabetes, high cholesterol and blood pressure. She enjoys working with the underserved and is bilingual in English and Spanish.
